In my work over the last thirty years as a massage therapist and acupuncturist, I have always searched for a way to help my clients get in touch with the inner origins of their tension or their health problems. I finally found it in the body-centered process called Focusing. I learned Focusing in 1989 and became a Certified Focusing Trainer in 2000.

Another current in my life has been writing The New Key to Costa Rica, now in its 16th edition. My love for the people of Central America has led to the founding of CONSERVacations, featuring tours to community-based ecotourism projects in Costa Rica. I hope to teach Focusing to community groups as a tool for their sustainability. I also use the listening skills I learned in Focusing to help people plan the vacation of their dreams.

At the Living Symbols Focusing Center in Blue Hill, Maine, I teach Focusing classes for both lay people and professionals. I charge $150 for a 10-hour class, which carries 1 CEU from the University of Maine. I also offer Focusing Massage.

I’m offering a Focusing in Paradise class at La Cusinga Lodge in Uvita de Osa on November 1 and 2, 2003, with adventure tours on either side.

I will be speaking about community-based ecotourism at Sustainable Resources 2003, an International Forum Connecting People with Practical Solutions to World Poverty in Boulder, CO, October 1-4.
