“The body knows” is a foundational principle of both Authentic Movement and Focusing. Come explore how these two modalities, both rooted in psychology, can be used in tandem to support you in accessing wisdom that you can use in daily life to understand, work with, creatively develop/resolve or heal life issues. The workshop will guide participants through basic concepts of mover/focuser and witness/companion and sample each modality before trying out a new ‘dance’ integrating one with the other. No previous knowledge or physical capabilities are prerequisites. Come as you are. Please bring a journal and wear comfortable clothes for moving.
ROBERTA WHITNEY, M.A. completed two-year training in Authentic Movement with Daphne Lowell and Alton Wasson in 2006. She continues occasional studies with them and Joan Webb. Focusing, developed by Eugene Gendlin, is a mind/body/spirit process for accessing the body’s innate wisdom and cultivating compassion towards oneself and others.
Focusing is useful for decision-making, clarifying life issues, moving past blocks, enhancing creativity, deepening spirituality, and knowing oneself more deeply in each moment.
This monthly drop-in group provides an opportunity for both those new to Focusing, and experienced Focusers, to practice within a supportive community. Newcomers will have an opportunity to be taught the Focusing process. A voluntary donation of $8 helps cover the rent.
All meetings are at The Arlington Center, on Sundays from 2-4 PM, and are open to both experienced Focusers, and those with no previous Focusing experience.
